By way of introduction, my family have lived in the area for over 500 years and in the last 40 years I have carried out extensive research on the locality as well as on my own family tree. I would like to provide the following information about the Millhoppers which I have gleaned from old records. The mill of Gubblecote (traditionally pronounced ‘Gubblegutt’) stood on this site at the junction of the manors of Gubblecote, Puttenham and Wilstone and is mentioned in the Domesday Book. The mill was driven by water fed from three hoppers (or reservoirs) that were supplied by the brook, one of which was subsequently filled in and is now part of College Farm’s land – the two remaining ones were also partially filled in and became what is now the butterfly sanctuary. This is the true derivation of the name ‘Millhoppers’. Regards, Ivor Gregory.

A great article on Station 113!

There is a new memorial to USAAF 36BS RCM Unit at Ford End Farm, Ivinghoe. It commemorates the crew of a B24 Liberator bomber.

It can be found adjacent to the watermill car park for public viewing.

This is a great account of station 113!

There is a new memorial dedicated to the USAAF 36BS RCM Unit at Ford End Farm Ivinghoe for the public to view.
It honours the crew of a crashed B24 Liberator aircraft.

The memorial is adjacent to the watermill car park.

I am writing to ask if I might have permission to reproduce the piece that appears on your website under the heading "The Parish Room, Puttenham" (it seems it first appeared in the "Village News", edition 7 Jan 2009) on my website at . . . .

http://gerald-massey.org.uk/tring/index.htm

I would like to use the information in connection with a piece that I am working on about the "Iron Room" at Tring Station.

I can't find an e-mail address for this website, hence my use of 'Comments'.

Regards,
Ian
